Manhattan Cocktail Recipe

Originally, the Manhattan was made with rye whiskey. Nowadays, bourbon is most often used, but with rye making a comeback, you can easily substitute the one for the other in this recipe.

This version is considered medium dry.

What you need

  • 2 and a 1/2 shots of bourbon
  • 1/2 shot of sweet vermouth
  • 1/2 shot of dry vermouth
  • 3 dashes of Angostura bitters

What you do

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, and pour in all the ingredients. Shake them together, and then strain the mixture into a chilled Martini glass. Garnish with a twist of orange and two maraschino cherries.

If you make this cocktail using Scotch whisky, then it is called a Rob Roy. The recipe is slightly different, but the same process as above is followed to make it:

  • 2 shots of Scotch whisky
  • 1 shot of sweet vermouth
  • 2 dashes of Angostura bitters
  • 1/8 shot of maraschino syrup (optional)
